Handwritten on card approx 3″ x 5″. Some marking and rubbing but overall very good.
A rare memorial card for F. J. O’Farrell, Late Lieutenanr Tank Corps, F Company Auxiliary Division R.I.C. mudered in dublin 14th March 1921.
James O’Farrell was serving with the Dublin Metropolitan Police during the Pearse Street Ambush which led to the capture and execution of Thomas Traynor. It followed the execution of 14 IRA members captured 2 months earlier, when an IRA hideout was investigated by the Police, It was worst day of political violence in the city since Bloody Sunday, 21st November 1920.
Memorial cards were printed in large numbers for Revolutionary leaders but for those serving in the British Forces are uncommon, and as this was handwritten only a handful were ever produced.
